Jahwan Edwards had heard of Ball State in high school. He had even watched the Cardinals play a game once, or maybe it was twice. One of those midweek ESPN deals. But if you had asked him to point to Ball State on a map or name what conference they played in, well, Edwards couldn’t help you.
Growing up in suburban Charlotte, N.C., you could hardly blame him. The Mid-American Conference has little resonance in the heart of ACC country, where North Carolina, Duke and North Carolina State dominate.

Back on the practice field this week after upsetting Indiana 27-20 Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium, Ball State is none the worse for wear. Coach Pete Lembo said the Cardinals avoided any serious injuries on Opening Night, and they may even be healthier now than they were a week ago.
Freshman running back Jahwan Edwards is wearing a no-touch jersey this week after getting hit in the ribs, but come game day at No. 22 South Florida, Edwards will be good to go.

Stacy LeMay, Christian’s father, did not say where Christian would attend school this fall, or whether he’d be home-schooled. He replied to a text saying Christian would attend school “in a private setting.”
