Butler sinks in 2nd half, falls to Page
From CharlotteObserver.com:
GREENSBORO For one half, the Butler Bulldogs looked like the two-time defending state champions that had won 12 straight playoff games.
In the second half, the Bulldogs looked like anything but champions, as Page scored 34 unanswered points to turn a 20-point deficit into a 40-26 win over Butler in the NCHSAA 4A West regional semifinal game. Page (13-0) will host undefeated Mallard Creek (13-0) next week in the 4AA West final.
Butler trumps Independence
From CharlotteObserver.com:
After Friday’s 42-20 win against arch-rival Independence, Butler High football coach Brian Hales said his team finally is beginning to play the way he imagined it would back in the summer.
Butler (11-1) won its 11th straight game and its 12th straight playoff game over the past three seasons. The Bulldogs scored on five of their first six possessions and led by as many as 30 points.
New team, same focus
From MatthewsMintHillWeekly.com:
In many ways, as the Butler football players celebrated with their fans along the railing on the visitors’ side of the stands at Independence High School on Oct. 28, things looked about status quo – at least over the past two years, when the Bulldogs have won 40 of 41 games and collected two Class 4AA state titles.
And last week’s gritty 38-26 win over rival Independence was another big win over a good team, and clinched the Bulldogs’ third consecutive Southwestern 4A conference title.
Ferguson brothers have connection on and off the field
From ESPN.com:
Recruiters know Riley Ferguson. Now if they could just get to know Zach Ferguson.
Zach is often the target of his little brother, Riley, the ESPNU 150 Watch List quarterback from Matthews (N.C.) Butler.
Zach, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound receiver, has 53 receptions for 932 yards and 11 touchdowns, but no scholarship offers late into his senior season.
Butler-Indy playoff game set for Providence High
Bulldogs not Buck-ed off course
From CharlotteObserver.com:
The Butler Bulldogs, the two-time, defending Class 4AA state football champion, has made it look easy at times the past three seasons, winning 41 of their last 42 games and 10 consecutive playoff games in that span.
Add one more to those streaks as Butler coasted past Hoke County 42-20 in the first round of the NCHSAA 4AAplayoffs.
Clutch drive propels Bulldogs
From CharlotteObserver.com:
MINT HILL A few weeks ago, at home against Ardrey Kell, Butler High’s football team needed a long drive to win the game and stay in the race for a third straight Southwestern 4A championship.
Friday night, in a 38-26 come-from-behind win at Independence, the Bulldogs needed an 80-yard drive to seal the title.
